What to do right now
Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to remove trapped food and take over-the-counter pain relief. Do not place aspirin on the gum. Call us — persistent pain usually means infection.
Save any fragments, rinse your mouth with warm water and apply gauze if there is bleeding. Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek and come in the same day.
Hold the tooth by the crown, rinse briefly, and reinsert it or store it in milk. Reaching us within one hour gives the best chance of saving the tooth.
Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the tooth until we re-seat or replace the restoration.
This is urgent. Rinse with salt water, keep your head elevated and call immediately. Untreated infection can spread beyond the jaw.
Apply firm pressure with clean gauze for 10 minutes and use a cold compress. If bleeding does not stop, call us right away.
